Favorite Takeaways:
Language is how you give intention to your intuition and how you share your vision with others. Language is how you create a culture.
Choose conflicting goals. Even though it creates friction, it forces innovation.
No matter what you do, you can make a difference in someone’s life. You must be able to name for yourself why your work matters.
Whenever possible, make the customer’s perception your reality. Let go of the concept of being right.
Let your energy impact the people you’re talking to, as opposed to the other way around.
Intention means every decision, from the most obviously significant to the seemingly mundane, matters.
Every hire sends a message. You need to be as unreasonable in how you build your team as you are in how you build your product or experience.
Nobody knows what they are doing before they do it.
Bonus Bits:
A dear friend and colleague recently gifted me with the follow up to this book: Unreasonable Hospitality: The Field Guide. It’s a fun way to put the unique concepts of this book into practice. Get it at your local, independent book store!
Eleven Madison Park’s Granola Recipe makes a great gift for friends, neighbors, and colleagues. The NY Times Cooking app has the recipe (search for Eleven Madison Park Granola), but if you’d like me to send you a copy of the recipe, send me a note via the Contact form below, I’d love to do it.
